Chitosan (CS) is a cationic polysaccharide widely used in medical applications as biomaterial or constituent of drug delivery systems by reason of biocompatibility, biodegradability, inherent biocidal activity, nontoxicity, swelling capacity and easy preparation in various forms [1,2]. Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is a biocompatible and nontoxic synthetic polymer with film-forming capacity and high hydrophilicity [3, 4]. Numerous studies on CS and PVA hydrogels have been reported in literature especially for tissue engineering and drug delivery applications [5, 6].
