During the surgical implantation of titanium into the human body bacterial contaminations of the wound can not be definitely excluded. Previous studies showed that electrochemically deposited calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)_2) coatings have an initial bactericidal effect and can be transformed to hydroxyapatite (HA) in physiological environment1. The aim of this study was the investigation of Ca(OH)_2 coatings modified by the inclusion of metal ions, concerning morphology, crystallographic structure and ion release kinetics.
