The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality and quantity of augmented bone with titanium mesh and autogenous particulate bone graft for implant placement. 50 sites rehabilitated between 2000 and 2009 with autogenous particulate intraoral bone or iliac cancellous bone marrow grafts and micro-titanium meshes were enrolled. The augmented bone was evaluated based on computed tomographic data. The complications were assessed. The major postsurgical complications were mesh exposure, infection, total or partial bone resorption and temporary neurological disturbances. Horizontal vertical defect type showed higher bone resorption. Moreover, in cleft palate and trauma patients, higher percentage of mesh exposure was observed. In conclusion, autogenous bone graft with titanium mesh allows adequate alveolar bone reconstruction. But the clinical outcome of augmentation would depend on the type of preoperative bone defect and the tissue vascularisation.
