Modifications of nasal width in maxillary advancements after le fort i osteotomy

All the patients who underwent Le Fort I osteotomy with maxillary advancements have suffered nasal modifications, more or less. The cinch suture became very important in order to minimize the risk of increasing nasal width and it has to be done at least 2 mm narrower than the predicted nasal with. The soft tissue measurements of the nose were performed before and 6 months after surgery. Our results revealed an increased alar base width (63,6%) simultaneous with a decreased nasal tip projection, despite the care of the cinch suture. We observed also that the distance between the soft-tissue nasion to the nasal tip had decreased after surgery, shortening the nose in conjunction with alar base widening. The facial aesthetics was achieved substantially by changing the maxillary skeletal relationships, but careful with the soft tissue changes including the nose. There are some cases where the outcomes were fully accepted by the patients even if the nose was shortened and the alar base was widened.
