This model (based on MacFarlane) was adapted to characteristics of this illness and their effects on family and social network, from a multidisciplinary view.In this pilot study an improvement on anxiety, depression, social support and family function was found and a decrease in family burden.Any chronic psychiatric illness can have a devastating effect on a family1,2. However, Bipolar disease may be unique in its potential for real world consequences3. In this context, only by going deeper into the reciprocal relationships between clinical, family and social factors is it possible to face the huge complexity imposed by this disease4,5. The aim of the present study is to describe psychoeducational intervention in Bipolar Disorder and its impact on psychological variables: anxiety, depression, caregiver burden, family characterization and social support6.
