Familf Future Orientation Among Romanian and American Adolescents

This study examined the "value of children" (benefits and costs) (VOC) as perceived by adolescents in the U.S. and Romania as well as the predictive power of VOC for future family planning. One hundred Romanian adolescents and 337 American adolescents participated. Cultural differences were found with regard to the importance attributed to VOC and future family planning. Regression analyses showed that VOC was only partly predictive of adolescents' fertility preferences among both samples. Results are discussed within the framework of family orientation during adolescence.
