The method involves freely putting each of bivalve mollusks into a fluid e.g. sea water, for tilting the mollusk under an effect of gravity so as to orient the mollusk on its lower valve. An additive is added with the fluid for changing density and viscosity of the fluid. The mollusk is stored in a storage container without changing the orientation of the mollusk. The mollusk is maintained between two plates, respectively contacting a tip (14) and heel (13) of the mollusk, such that a main axis (R) passing via the tip and the heel is horizontal. An independent claim is also included for a device for storing a bivalve mollusk in a container.
