AIM of the SEAHELLARC project was to develop a new approach in assessing seismic and tsunami hazard by exploiting new hardware and combining geological, geophysical and engineering studies. The coastal zone of western Peloponnese, SW Hellenic arc, was used as a pilot area, since this margin is one of the most seismic and tectonic active regions of Europe. Seismic hazard was computed according to the state-of-the-art techniques and considering a new seismogenic zonation. Seismic sources potential for tsunami generation were identified. An amphibious network for near real time seismicity observations was established on/offshore western Peloponnese. The marine station is a new development that permits to record earthquakes and tsunamis. Data are transmitted to a central station and are available through Internet. The results of this study are directly applicable to the necessities of the local communities of western Peloponnese,and elsewhere in the Mediterranean.
