摘要

The objective of this study is to conduct a comparative study between seismic provisions of the International Building Code, and Uniform building Code in order to determine the differences in resulting drift ratios and design base shear. This is done through comparing seismic design forces on a steel braced frame using the two codes, in two different soil types using two different structural models. The analysis of results obtained revealed significant variations in seismic forces and story drift when applying the IBC compared to UBC since it gives more weight to height limitations, shape factors, soil types and conditions. On the other hand, modelling composite floors using fictitious horizontal bracing systems is found to be acceptable and provides compatible results with modelling using steel beams of composite sections.
