Humanizing Operating Procedures Through e-Procedure Technology

Operating procedures - can't live with them, can't live without them. With 60-80% of incidents caused by human error and with increasing complex layers of protection, redundancy and engineering controls coupled with changing experience demographics of the workforce, operating companies are taking a serious look at the deficiencies and risks associated with poor operating procedures, practices and programs. While procedures can and should be the heartblood of safe and efficient operations, they can also be a significant and growing risk. The status quo for procedures are highly formatted, paper-based created in MS Word, managed by a document management system. Subject matter experts easily spend (waste) up to 75% of their time creating documents on formatting to the currently "blessed" template. Operators have lots of reasons why they do not use or trust procedures, contributing to the risks.
