Wool was treated by using polyurethane mixed with chitosan for anti-felting and antibacterial finishing. Firstly chitosan was degraded into different molecular weights by microwave/oxidation method. The influence of the molecular weight of chitosan on anti-felting property of the wool was investigated by Aachen Felting Test with washing fastness tester and a reasonable molecular weight of chitosan was proposed. And then the chitosan was mixed into water soluble polyurethane and formed a stable chitosan modified polyurethane emulsion. After that, the wool fabric was treated with the emulsion of chitosan/ polyurethane. The treated wool fabric reached the technique standard of anti-felting property to IWS TM NO.31 and had a good antibacterial effect.
