Evidence suggests that there is a common global recognition of the performance-based approach for alternative solutions for building construction instead of strict compliance with the 'deem to satisfy' provisions or similar prescriptive requirements required by the building codes of various authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs). Because of the increasing awareness of the issues of construction in bushfire1 prone areas and with the proliferation of legislative requirements, the benefits of designing performance-based alternative solutions in bushfire prone areas allow sustainable development on the bushfire urban interface for those that prefer a "green-change" rather than a "sea-change" lifestyle.
