A new eddy current inspection system is under development to inspect an area of the sealing cover of austenitic main circuit cooling pumps. The inspection task: In addition to the classic inspection technologies VT and PT another NDE system is needed to evaluate the depth of deeper SCC-defects. Based on integrity calculations a maximum tolerable defect depth of 12 mm was defined. The eddy current inspection has to detect SCC and has to proof that the depth of SCC is less than 12 mm. Therefore the eddy current inspection system must be able to separate 12mm and deeper cracks. The chosen detection limit is a crack depth of 14mm at the calibration block.
