The removal of selenium from industrial waste water streams is a current interest for a number of industries. Specifically, selenate reduction has been a challenge for traditional physical/chemical removal technologies. The authors discuss a bench study that examines the performance of an alumina adsorption media for the removal of two commonly found species of selenium. The authors go on to examine the influence of other constituents and how the performance varies with temperature and pretreatment with organic acids.
