The SRM specificity allows identification of different bacterial species commonly observed in VAP (Gram+ and Gram-). According to clinicians, the 12 species we targeted in this work, cover more than 80% of VAP occurred in ICU [3]. Due to the multiplex capabilities of SRM, the presence of microorganisms could be explored in complex and poly microbial samples. In contrast to MALDI-ToF-MS, several microorganisms could be identified independently of concentration level. The developed method is compatible with patient colonization follow-up and offers a single opportunity to quickly identify specific microorganisms directly in crude clinical samples within the threshold expected by clinicians. This technique could be successfully applied to other body fluids.
