'Using Mass Spectrometry to Identify a Novel Adrenal Amyloid Protein'

Amyloidosis is a medical disorder in which the misfolding of a protein leads to protein aggregation that eventually results in an insoluble plaque. To date, the improper folding of more than 20 different proteins has been recognized to cause amyloid disease, the most common being Alzheimer disease. Historically, amyloidosis was diagnosed via tissue staining with Congo Red followed by immunohistochemistry analysis to identify the amyloid protein. The current study is aimed to identify an amyloid protein the adrenal gland of a patient in which traditional immunohistochemistry results remained inconclusive.
