1. Adipose tissue and adipocytes have emerged as major players in the maintenance of energy metabolism and homeostasis, rather than simply storage sites for excess nutrients. 2. Signaling pathways involving proteins and hormones regulate adipogenesis and influence the response in disease states such as obesity and diabetes. 3. Prior studies have characterized and explored the protein content of intact adipose tissue and the 3T3 L1 differentiated adipocytes, but few reports describe the proteome of primary human adipose tissue. 4. In our study we present, for the first time, the protein components of adipose tissue derived from obese human subjects and present in primary MA and the SVF.
