1. Numerical simulations in the source region show that the major causes of the ion loss from ion source to mass spectrometer entrance are turbulent diffusion and coulomb repulsion. An approach to address these losses was introduced in [7]. 2. Although the simulated ion losses are larger than smaller than expected, a major assumption in this study is that all ions are desolvated and emanate from a 1/2mm cylindrical volume approximately 1.2cm from the mass spectrometer entrance, which is a simplification of the extremely complex ESI process. 3. Future studies are to include the ESI desolvation process, as well as ions of different mass and mobility.
