Robust and reproducible ionization was achieved when our workflow was implemented. Analysis of uninfected fish revealed a pattern of organ-specific localization for individual low molecular weight ions as well as a more general distribution for other ions. In fish infected with P. aeruginosa signals were observed that localized to the dorsal region as well a region near the heart and liver. The specific localization of these signals is suggestive of a host immune response to infection. Methods are being optimized for the detection of P. aeruginosa metabolites.
