Using LC-MS/MS methods, we identified a total of 74 lipid species in the lipid extracts of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. The fly's membrane is composed of glycerophospholipids belonging to the PE, PC, PG, PI and PS classes including several plasmanyl PE species, as well as cardiolipins, and ceramides. Additionally, we used an LC-MRM approach to quantify absolute abundances of 28 lipid species and two internal standards corresponding to 21 MRM transitions. The total amount of PE species was found to be twice that of PC species in the fly's membrane.
