A Novel Quantification Approach in Proteomics Using a Quadrupole-Orbitrap Mass Spectrometer

There is an immediate need for improved methods to systematically and precisely quantify large peptide sets in systems biology or biomarker evaluation studies. While targeted approaches relying on triple-quadrupole mass spectrometers are routine, two major challenges remain. Firstly, increasing the number of peptides included in one survey experiment (to several hundreds); secondly, achieving a degree of selectivity to reliably discriminate the targeted analytes from background interferences.
