LDI-MS provides a fast and informative way to characterize surface functionalities of core-shell NPs; Semi-quantitative measure of the ligand composition on mixed monolayer AuNPs was achieved by LDI-MS; NP "mass barcodes" along with the LDI-MS can successfully track cell-surface binding of AuNPs; We predict that the LDI-MS will prove very useful for other NP types and for tracking NPs in complex biological samples.
