LDI and ESI spectra are characteristically different for samples of different origin. Positive and negative ion spectra are different. LDI and ESI provide complementary information. Ultrahigh resolution and MS/MS with different activation techniques are crucial to derive structural information: many species and many structural isomers. NMR is necessary to provide complimentary chemical information on tholin components. These are mostly nitrogen containing aromatic and aliphatic compounds including nitriles, imines and amines.
