Rapid covalent pre-gel modification of proteins for their instant visualization and subsequent mass spectrometric characterization

In our “pre-gel derivatization approach” the protein staining, reduction and alkylation are already integrated in the sample preparation for SDS-PAGE. Uniblue A is a blue colorant, which contains a vinyl group that reacts covalently with amines in a nucleophilic addition reaction. Further it is readily soluble in aqueous solutions due to a sulfate group. The separation of the protein species can be observed already during the run, and an additional staining is not necessary.
