Calculation of quantity of ricin in a sample can be done using two different types of calibration curves. The peptide calibration curve determines the quantity of ricin that can be recovered from a sample using the immunopurification assay. The protein calibration curve determines how much ricin is contained in a sample relative to a known amount. Both of these methods are necessary to accurately assess the toxicity to a human who may have consumed a food matrix contaminated with ricin or a castor bean.
