Semi-targeted metabolite identification using precursor (PREC) and neutral loss (NL) "scans" based on a MIM workflow are compared with the analogous traditional scanned methods for sensitivity and signal-to-noise. Several compounds incubated in vitro were used to compare the scanned methods to those based on MIM. The methods based on true scanned experiments were created using LightSight~(~R) software and the MIM-style methods were created using customized Excel spreadsheets. In most cases, the signal-to-noise of the survey was better by 2 to 5 X in the MIM-style "scans" when compared to their true scanned experiments.
