The microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOC) from Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus nidulans, Fusarium solani and Penicillium paneum strains in various fungal growth stages, which were cultured on the Czapek-Dox agar were collected using solid phase micro extraction (SPME) and were analyzed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). From the results of SPME-GC/MS spectra, The amount of 2-undecanone observed in the specimens began to increase at an early stage of incubation. 2-Undecanone is a candidate of an indicator of fungal growth. The difference in peak patterns of chromatograms was observed for various kinds of microorganisms. Results obtained for fungal strains in soils showed common substances among the strains, and species- or strain-specific ones.
