Of approximately 2000 protein spots detected in the 32 gel set, 162 spots were significantly different between day 21 and day 50 mammary gland (age effect; regardless of treatment); of these, 4 were identified (Table 1; Figure 2A shows an example of the age effect). Sixteen proteins were significantly different due to polyphenol treatment (treatment effect; regardless of age); of these, three were identified (Table 1; Figure 2B shows an example of the treatment effect). Nine spots were determined to have a significant interaction of age and treatment; of these, four were identified (Table 1; Figure 5 shows an example of the significant interaction). One hundred spots were missing at one age but not the other; of these, three were identified (Table 1; Figure 6 shows an example of a spot that was missing in 21-day samples, butpresent in 50-day samples). Thus far, the majority of the proteomic differences detected in whole rat mammary gland were age-effects.
