Reverse micelle assemblies formed by amphiphilic dendrimers can be coupled to RPLC-MS to extract peptides based on charge and hydrophobicity for analysis by ESI-MS. The initial charge-based extraction step is accompanied by an approximately 30-fold concentration factor. The parallel extractions along with RPLC analysis provide a multidimensional separation that has potential for very complex peptide mixtures.
