We have developed a facile synthetic technique for making well ordered ZrO_(2) and HfO_(2) mesoporous structures. Both materials enrich phosphopeptides with high specificity, measoporous HfO_(2) has further advantages for enriching multiply phosphorylated peptides as well as singly phosphorylated peptides, which allows a more comprehensive and efficient phosphoproteomic analysis. Proper engineering of the mesoporous materials in terms of chemical composition, porosity, surface area, and pore structures and further optimization of the enrichment procedures will likely enhance their performance further.
