In our study, we identified approx300 proteins, among which there are many proteins which were reported earlier in ESCC which were never been reported in ESCC. This study provides evidence that SILAC assay can be used to study cancer cells derived secretome for biomarker discovery and provides a subset of molecules which can be used as potential and novel targets for screening the body fluids i.e. serum and plasma of ESCC patients. The expression of PDIA3, IGFBP7 and TGFBI in ESCC vs. nonneoplastic esophageal epithelial cells warrants further exploration of these molecules as candidate biomarkers for the early detection of ESCC.
