Mass Spectrometry Applications in Clinical Diagnostics: From the Bench to the Bedside for the Clinical Chemistry Interest Group - Tuesday June 2nd 2009
Approximately 250 people attended this workshop during ASMS. The drivers for this discussion were two-fold. Firstly, the last few years have seen significant increases in the use of MS technologies to answer biological questions and it is estimated that some 30percent of the conference program is focused on this. One aspect of these research efforts that is striking is the potential utility of research workflows and discovered biomarkers in clinical utility. The second driver is the recently convened workshop (October 2008) from the office of in-vitro diagnostics (OIVD) from the FDA to garner feedback and consensus on the in-vitro diagnostics multi-index analysis (IVDMIA) white paper published in 2007 and refined in 2008.
