1. The above results provide evidence that both approaches have achieved their purpose of greatly reducing the relative abundance of the major proteins. 2. Significantly more proteins can be reliably identified from human serum after affinity-enrichment using peptide libraries, compared with analyses of neat serum or after depletion of 14 major proteins. 3. Low abundance proteins such as cytokines are still beyond the detection limit of MS after enrichment, suggesting that further technical advancement is required for more comprehensive analysis of complex proteomes.
