Post Combustion Capture (PCC) of CO_2 can be an attractive option to lower the CO_2 emission at large emission sources such as power plants. The main technique of PCC under investigation is based on the use of amine solutions absorbing the CO_2, followed by a thermal regeneration step to unload the amine solution and to create a relatively pure CO_2 phase. At this moment the benchmark process is based on the use of Mono Ethanol Amine (MEA). This type of process is commercialized by several technology providers. However, the main drawbacks of this type of process are the energy consumption and the environmental burden by emissions of MEA related compounds in the gas and bleed streams. Typically 1 to 1.5 kg of MEA is lost upon a capture of 1000 kg of CO_2. This means that for a power plant of 800 MW up to 22 ton MEA is needed per 24 hours.
