In Italy there is a great interest in using ponds or small lakes located in the fluvial surroundings because people generally opposes to the realization of new dams. The reservoirs could be filled up during flood events and could become, maintaining the water for a certain period, a resource for agriculture and a source of artificial recharge of groundwater. In this work we propose a set of tools for a first estimate of the real efficiency of such devices i.e. the emptying time of the lake. The tools consist of dimensionless plots obtained using the results provided by a large set of numerical runs performed with MODFLOW 2000 and arranged in order to simulate the most common and interesting technical cases. The plots present dimensionless parameters obtained from the geometry of the problem, the initial lake and groundwater level, the hydraulic parameters of the aquifer and of the bottom of the lake.
