Within the EU funded project CELPACT, various cellular cores with different unit-cell geometries and various constitutive materials were produced and tested, aiming to assess the energy absorbing capability. In this frame, hard-body low velocity, low and high energy impact tests have been performed on sandwich panels with both metallic truss-type and non-metallic foldcore cellular cores. The impact behaviour of sandwich panels with SLM open-lattice core between two carbon/epoxy skins was found similar to that of conventional sandwich panels with Aluminium foam cores. The tested specimens comprising foldcore between two composite skins also indicated good energy absorbing capabilities.
