Reaction Sciences has developed a low temperature, 400 deg C, thermochemical water splitting process, called the V-Process, to produce hydrogen and oxygen. The V-Process, driven by the heat from the fuel gas cooler and other sources in a coal gasification plant, can produce hydrogen and oxygen from water at a very low cost. The hydrogen, from the V-Process, and the carbon monoxide, in the Syngas, can then be reacted to form pipeline quality synthetic natural gas (SNG) at 1,000 Btu per cubic foot. Additionally, the oxygen, from the V-Process, can be used in the gasifier, thereby reducing the size of the air separation plant and increasing overall plant efficiency.
