Both low-(Wyodak) and high-(Illinois No. 6) sulfur coals can be used to produce H_2 from IGCC with the capture of CO_2. Some of the significant conclusions: While the coal-handling puts the low-sulfur coal at a disadvantage compared to the highsulfur coal, the low-sulfur case resulted in lower overall costs. The high sulfur case required significantly more (29 percent) oxygen. The solvent handling equipment in the glycol-based (Selexol~(TM)) H_2S recovery; Claus and the SCOT processes all were reduced by 50 percent for the low-sulfur case, again a significant difference. The remainder of the system stages were very similar.
