Our study is a part of the designing process of a pruning tool which is used to cut hedges of roadsides. In order to determine the characteristics of the tool and be able to test it in a laboratory, the design of such a tool requires the knowledge and the development of a model of the material to cut,.The first aim of this study is to determine statistics of the section of cut hedges, as well as their distribution as a function of the height of their implantation and their position in the cut plan. We used a computer-aided treatment of pictures. Moreover, we obtain dynamical behavior of hedges using accelerometers and impact hammer. This study will enable the pruning tool developer to measure the cutting forces and the power required during cut, Thanks to try outs on a test bench fitted with boughs and fastenings similar of natural conditions.
