It has now been elucidated that somatic cells can be reprogrammed through the expression of specific factors (Oct4, Sox2, Klf4, and c-MYC) to display a level of pluirpotency similar to that of human embryonic stem cells.[1] To date, this has largely been accomplished through the transformation of skin fibroblasts. Here, through detailed in vitro and in vivo analysis, we aimed to determine whether iPSs cells could be successfully derived from human adipose-derived stromal cells (hASCs). To this end success was achieved, and these exciting observations begin to circumvent the hurdles to clinical translation that currently burden this otherwise promising pluipotent cell population for use in tissue engineering applications.
