Facial advancement with osteo-distractor in severe craniofaciosynostosis: the improvement of the technique in our experience

Background Midfacial distraction following Le Fort III osteotomy has become an established procedure for midfacial advancement of syndromic craniosynostosis patients. Objectives At the beginning of our experience we offered all patients facial advancement with Le Fort III and Halo distraction. Improvement in both surgical experience and knowledge of the complexity of the pathology allowed us to develop a more specific surgical protocol. The aim is to obtain a good control of the aesthetic and functional problems related to severe faciocraniosynostosis during child growth. We present our results and focus on the outcome, pitfalls and complications of facial advancement with Le Fort III versus monobloc frontofacial advancement and Halo distraction.
