The electrochemical properties of 1H-3-methyl-4-ethoxycarbonyl-5-(4-fluorobenzylidenehydrazino)-pyrazole have been investigated in anhydrous solvents at a platinum electrode. The voltammetric investigation of the above compound in nonaqueous dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) shows a single irreversible anodic peak. Controlled potential electrolysis of the latter compound carried out in DMSO using a divided cell revealed the formation of 1H-3-(4-fluoro-phenyl)-6-methyl-7-ethoxycarbonyl-pyrazolo[5,1-c][1,2,4]triazole as a cyclization product providing a starting point in finding a new more sustainable method of obtaining the latter compound.
