Cephalometric comparison of colombian patients between 3 and 16 years old with unilateral cleft lip and palate and without clefts

This is a retrospective study that compares the craniofacial growth in unilateral cleft lip and palate patients (CLP) with non-cleft controls, classified by gender and age between 3 and 16 years. This study was performed on 291 lateral standardized cephalograms, 127 of them with unilateral CLP and 164 without clefts. Descriptive statistics were performed using a Student's t test. Results: Lower values were observed in the CLP group (p<0,05) for craniofacial dimensions and maxilo-mandibular relationship. Higher values (P<0,05) were found in CLP group for mandibular rotation and cranial base angulations. Conclusions: Craniofacial sagital growth appears to be inhibiting in LPH group with maxilo-mandibular retrusion. Differences between the two groups are clear with higher vertical dimensions, making flat and backward profiles with tendency towards vertical increase and skeletal class III.
