Case study of on-farm trials, spatial analysis and farm management decision making

This three-year case study of North American farmers follows their use of yield monitors for on-farm trials in farm management decision making. Case study methods were used because relatively few farms quantitatively analyze yield monitor data and, atthis early research stage, insufficient farm management information about this data was available to ask the right questions on a large scale survey. Results indicate yield data quality impacts farm management decisions, farmers exposed to spatial analysis tended to use split-field designs instead of replicated split-planter designs and they were more confident in their decisions, making more decisions more quickly.
