As the practice of aquaculture continues to grow worldwide, so does the need for environmentally sound waste management and waste disposal techniques. The use of coagulants and flocculants to assist in removing suspended solids has long been a standard in the drinking water and waste treatment field. The application of these coagulants and flocculants in the aquaculture industry are proving to be a viable option for onsite waste treatment. In many recirculation systems, microscreen filters are used to remove and concentrate the suspended solids from the process water, they require minimal labor and floor space and can treat large flow rates of water with little head loss. These microscreen filters generate a separate solids waste stream that can befurther concentrated to improve the quality of discharge water to meet local, state, and regional discharge water quality ranges and significantly reduce storage volume.
