Radar NSMS retains the significant benefits of traditional NSMS. Non-intrusive stationary sensors in housing can be used in a wide variety of development and troubleshooting tests. Radar sensor provides a continuous vibration signal. Measures blade motion of an arc of revolution (sees the blade coming and going). Allows frequency domain signal processing. FFT accurately determines vibration frequency and amplitude, even when more than one mode of vibration is present. Eliminates the need for a large number of traditional sensors. Reduces system complexity and cost. Eliminates the need for a-priori knowledge of the vibration environment. Allows use of NSMS in blind testing (common in development and troubleshooting roles). Expands the possible applications for the measurement technique.
