In the wake of 9-11, building tenants, employees, and visitors are seeking a sense of order and predictability in the workplace, and protection against criminals and other controllable threats. This requires a comprehensive and continuous approach to security and safety by developers, architects, management, security directors, from the design phase through daily operation. We are losing our focus in the war on terrorism. American's have a short attention span. If nothing happens we tend to forget what grabbed our attention. Our enemies are relying on our complacency. The attacks of the future will concentrate on our infrastructure. The military can not protect the entire nation, and police due to its insufficient manpower, lack of training, equipment, and lack of info/intelligence is not a deterrent to any attack. A resilient system within the infrastructure that would increase the level of survivability after an attack would require the private sector to assume a greater share of the responsibility for its own security. That's where we come in with CPTED providing a holistic comprehensive approach and methodology.
