It is now about five years since the whole rice ge-nome was decoded (IRGSP 2005). This sequence in-formation has provided new tools for genetics and hascreated a new paradigm of plant breeding. Many phe-notypic traits of economic interest are controlled bymultiple genes and often show complex and quantita-tive inheritance.
