Thin slab casting is among the new processes utilized for steel production. Complexity of theprocess has been challenging to researchers in this field. Physical models are designed and utilized forscientific investigation of the process. The most suitable physical model for continuous casting is the watermodel. In this research, a water model was used to investigate the mould and nozzle system of the thin slabcaster at SABA Steel Complex. The flow pattern in the mould and the effect of submergence depth on thesurface turbulence were investigated. The results indicate that at special nozzle submergence the surfacewave sharply decreases.
