Prediction of the potential effects of increased flooding periods on grassland in the core area of the German-Polish National Park

For the amendment of the National Park law as enforced in 2006, it was necessary to be able to predict the potential effects of setting up a natural flooding regime (extending of the opening of the polder intake construction by one month) on the composition of the grassland plant communities, grassland yields and quality. The following could be deduced: - the detailed limitation of the reserves I (total reservations) and II (ecologically compatible, extensive grassland utilization) 50:50% each; - conflict fields with regard to protection of species with changes in the water regime; - the long-term agricultural utilization of zone II and the yield situation to be expected there; - a total summing up of the remaining usable agricultural areas, including yield and quality of fodder.
